There are as many shades of aggression as there are dogs. For example, some types of aggression are caused by the dog overstimulating/overreacting when presented with "normal" stimuli (Reactivity). Others are based on hormonal changes, and some are just natural aggression. Having decades of experience with all types of aggression, we at Cool K9's Dog Training can quickly assess the root of the problem behavior, and come up with a personalized training program to resolve it.
While it is perfectly fine for your dog not to be very social, or not to like a particular dog, it is NOT okay to start a fight. We teach you how to read your dog, as well as how to communicate clearly with them. Control of the situation is important, and understanding the reason for the behavior will allow you to eliminate the problem quickly. The bond between you and your dog will grow, as will your confidence in your ability to control any situation!
Sadly, many dogs are afraid of people outside of their own "pack". Reactivity and outright aggression are typically the result of traumatic experiences, genetics, and socialization deficits. Regardless, we will work with you to create a custom training and treatment plan to get your dog out of "stranger danger" mode, and into making new friends!
Resource guarding can occur over anything a dog deems valuable: water, food, toys, treats, people, space, etc. It is often seen in dogs that were raised in less than ideal environments, though it can manifest anywhere. Regardless, it is an unsafe behavior that can lead to serious injury, or worse. At Cool K9's Dog Training, we teach you how to control and rectify this situation.
